Measurements on the Fat Contents of ROKAF Pilot and Airmen by Means of Skinfold Method

Abstract
In a group of the subjects of 50 healthy airmen ranging from 20 to 27 years old, fat weights
were -measured by densitometry and skinfold thicknesses by skinfold caliper at four sites of body to make regression equations between them . The regresssion equation was applied to 500 Republic of Korea Air Force Personnel:92 jet-Pilot (28-35 years old) and 408 airmen and officers (20-28 years old), for mass survey on the total body fat weight, which is . estimated by skinfold measurements with Langes skinfold caliper and the fat. contents .¢¥ .were compared with other authors values.
The following results were obtained.
1. In a group of the subjects of 50 young healthy airmen the correlation between fat
weights estimated by densitometry and skinfold measurements were high(r=0.735-0.819).
2. Regression equation between fat weights and skinfold measurements were, Fat,.Weight (Kg) =0.653xXS.M. + 3.91 S.M. : Sum of the skinfold thicknesses at 4 sites.
3. In a mass survey of 500 Republic of Korea _ Air Force personnel, the results were: (1) F. W. (Kg) = 10.1 Kg (2) F. F. W. (Kg) .51.9 Kg (3) F. W. /F. F. W(/) = 19.4 (4) F. W. IT. B. M. (/) = 16.1 /
4. The fat weights of the pilots were greater than those of the airrnen(P<.001).
5. In the fat free weights, there was - no. significant difference between - the pilots and the airmen.
